How to Apply for Civil Service Employment
Civil Service employees work in numerous areas of employment including Clerical, Crafts/Trades, Professional/Technical, and Services. Civil Service positions are filled through a Civil Service testing process. Names of qualified applicants who pass examinations are placed on employment registers in the order of examination score. When there are position vacancies, applicants are referred to hiring departments for interviews according to their placement on employment registers. In general, applicants for Civil Service employment must be residents of the State of Illinois. Examples of Civil Service classifications include: Accountant, Building Service Worker, Business Manager, Carpenter, Driver, Electrician, Kitchen Helper, Medical Assistant, Office Support Associate, Police Officer, Staff Nurse, Technical Support Specialist, and Veterinary Technician.
