Position/Classification
Compensation, Classification & Career Architecture determines the classification of a position based on the majority of the position’s assigned duties and responsibilities. When the duties and responsibilities of a position change over time such that they are more typical of another classification, a position may be reviewed (audited) to see if a reclassification or reallocation of the position is appropriate.

- Reclassification – Reassignment of an existing position within a promotional line.
- Reallocation – Reassignment of an existing position to a class which is a part of a different promotional line, or to a class which is not a part of any promotional line.
- Temporary upgrades occur when an employee is assigned, temporarily, the full set of duties of a job in a higher classification due to the absence of another employee. The employee is no longer performing his/her own duties but rather is working temporarily in a higher-level position. This most often occurs in the crafts and trades area where an employee would take on the supervisory role in the absence of the sub-foreperson or foreperson.
