Scholarship Overview

The Civil Service Employees and Dependents Scholarship Program Fund in Honor of Marjorie Beasley (Civil Service Scholarship) is a unique program designed by employees for employees. This scholarship is for Civil Service employees or the dependents of Civil Service employees at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or University System Office Civil Service employees who work on the Urbana campus.

The program was designed to assist Civil Service employees and their dependents to achieve educational goals by providing selected recipients with financial assistance in their pursuit of an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university, with preference given to applicants attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or Parkland College.

Each year, up to one employee and three dependents are eligible to receive the award. The scholarship amounts are $1,000 for the employee and $1,500 for each dependent scholarship winner.

Eligibility (Dependent)

  • The applicant must meet the IRS dependent definition of an individual who is a dependent of a current, full-time, Civil Service employee at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or University System Office Civil Service employees who work on the Urbana campus.
  • This employee must have a minimum of three years of continuous full-time employment at the time of application, five years preferred.
  • The applicant must be an incoming full-time freshman at an institution of higher education or a continuing full-time college student.
  • Individuals who have previously received this award remain eligible to apply, but priority consideration will be given to those who have not been selected as recipients in the past.

Eligibility (Employee)

  • Must be currently employed full-time as a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Civil Service employee or University System Office Civil Service employees who work on the Urbana campus.
  • The employee must have a minimum of three years of continuous full-time employment at the time of application, five years preferred.
  • The employee must be enrolled as a student in an institution of higher education.
  • Previous recipients are eligible to apply, but preference is given to new applicants.

Selection Committee

The Civil Service Scholarship Committee is dedicated to ensuring a fair and transparent process for awarding scholarships. The committee is composed of members from various departments and backgrounds, bringing diverse perspectives to the selection process.
