Civil Service New Hire Orientation

After a candidate accepts a written contingent offer, and after the background check and any required pre-employment testing has been completed, the candidate must call Staff Human Resources (SHR) at (217) 333-2137 to schedule a Civil Service New Hire Orientation. This includes current Extra Help, Academic Hourly, and Student employees moving to a permanent Civil Service position.

Sessions are in a small group setting and typically last 1.5 – 2 hours. We recommend new hires attend a session the week before they begin their employment, but they are required to attend no later than their first day of work.

At the orientation, the new hire will complete HR forms and the I-9, which must be signed on or before their first day of work. They will be scheduled for three benefits sessions: Benefits Orientation, Insurance Enrollment, and a SURS Retirement Webinar. They will then have thirty calendar days from their first day of work to enroll in health and dental insurance.
