Community Police Academy

The Community Police Academy is an opportunity to participate in conversations about University Police operations, investigations, crime prevention, and specialized units like K-9, bomb squad, and SWAT, and it culminates with a police ride along so you can learn more about what officers do. This is a four-week course involving one three-hour class per week. Space is limited, so participants are selected on an application basis. TBA, every fall and spring semester.

Saturday Physics for Everyone

Saturday Physics for Everyone is a series of lectures on modern aspects of the physical sciences held Saturday mornings each fall. Lectures are select Saturdays from 10:55 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Fall semester.

Abbott Power Plant Tour

Reliable energy service is critical to the university and its teaching and research missions. Originally constructed in 1941, Abbott Power Plant supplies 70-75% of the energy demand for the Urbana campus. Get an up-close look at the university's cogeneration facility which simultaneously produces both steam and electricity for the campus with an emphasis on safety, reliability, and environmental responsibility.

The University of Illinois Solar Farm at Urbana-Champaign is one of the largest university-owned photovoltaic arrays in the country.

Waste Transfer Station Recycling Tour

The University of Illinois recycles more than 4 million pounds of materials annually from the Urbana campus and diverts about 30% of its waste from landfills. Tours available upon request.

Richmond Family Welcome Gallery at Alice Campbell Alumni Center

The welcome gallery showcases the University's rich history, traditions, and global impact through interactive, multimedia exhibits on more than 130 topics—featuring artifacts, images, videos, and personal stories of alumni and students from the past 150 years. The gallery is open Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays ,9 a.m. to 12 p.m., during the fall and spring semesters.

FSHN Pilot Processing Plant & IBRL Tour

Tour of the FSHN Pilot Processing Plant and, if time is available, the IBRL next door. These facilities assist researchers and industry scale-up work in the food and bioprocessing areas. You will see a variety of technologies including fermentation, fruit & vegetable processing, flour milling, and much more!

Observe Women's Wheelchair Basketball Practice

An opportunity to come watch the women's wheelchair basketball team practice, with possible interactions with the coaches and players at the conclusion of practice. Practice is from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., October 1–March 6, Tuesday–Thursday.

Allerton Park & Retreat Center - Mansion/Garden Tour

Built as a private residence by artist and philanthropist Robert Allerton in 1900, Allerton Park and Retreat Center is a historical treasure that was donated to the University of Illinois in 1946. The property contains 1,500 acres of woodland and prairie areas, a Mansion and reflecting pond, a 10-acre meadow, formal sculpture gardens, hiking trails, a café, and several lodging facilities.

Learn more about Robert Allerton and the magnificent estate he created by taking a tour of the Formal Gardens and/or Mansion. Tours are based on availability, and should be scheduled in advance.

Tour your NPR and PBS stations! Visit WILL's television and radio broadcast facility on the north side of campus. Tours are given September through May and the studios are regularly active in the morning - the best time to visit!

Clock and History Tour

The tour starts at 3 p on the selected day in the lobby of the Dean of Agriculture, second floor, south end of Mumford Hall, U of I campus. The tour will end at 5p in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory on West side of Mathews Ave, just north of the Boneyard. The total walking length is about 1.5 miles, some stairs. I give details on the eight clocks listed below plus some history of the buildings, the landscape and the people who once inhabited them. Max number of attendees is 20-25. Groups should contact me to set up the time, weekdays only 8 a.m. to 5p.m.

Illinois Distributed Museum Tour

Learn about stories of innovation that have come from our campus. This walking tour around campus will highlight research that has had impacts worldwide. You will get to see buildings, objects and/or documents related to these innovations. This tour can be tailored to groups so that you are able to learn about topics you are interested in but may not get to interact with in your daily work.
