Minimum Qualifications:

1. Any one or any combination of the following types of preparation:

(a) credit for college course work in the culinary arts

(b) vocational or on-the-job training in the culinary arts and/or work experience in large scale cooking in a variety of food areas and cuisine

that totals 1.0 unit according to the following conversion rates:

30 semester hours of "a" that includes some training in baking = 1.0 unit

9 months of "b" that includes some training/experience in baking = 1.0 unit.

Amounts of training or experience less than those listed above should be converted to decimal equivalents of 1.0 unit and added together when computing combinations of the different types of preparation.

Special Instructions:
An updated application and copies of college transcripts must be submitted by the time you submit the exam request, in addition to any other relevant documents, such as a resume, staff development course listing, etc. These documents can be electronically attached to your online application through the "Documents" link on Part 2 of the application. Applicants and employees must submit an online Civil Service Application and Exam Request form (you must submit both) at jobs.illinois.eduIf an application was previously submitted, an update is still required. Your request to create a civil service application will be processed within two (2) business days (Monday - Friday). Your logon information will be e-mailed to you. When you receive your logon information, you can complete your online Civil Service employment application and exam request form.

Exam Scoring Information:
The updated online application and all uploaded, relevant documents, such as a resume, college transcripts, and/or staff development course listings, will be used in the calculation of the exam score. These documents must be uploaded by the time you submit your exam request. For this exam, please remember to include all relevant work experience typically including the preparation and service of gourmet pastries and other foods for catering functions and special pastries for meals/banquets.
