Professional Employment Redesign (PER)

The State Universities Civil Service System (SUCSS) has revised the criteria for administrative (Academic Professional) positions that can be exempted from the civil service system. The new criteria will be used to determine if a position is classified as Civil Service (CS) or exempted Academic Professional (AP) beginning October 1, 2018. No employees will be reclassified automatically. We will continue to be able to hire APs in accordance with the new criteria.

In light of this revision, Illinois Human Resources (IHR) is launching a Professional Employment Redesign (PER). PER will include updating aspects of our hiring processes and preparing the systems necessary to implement this new process in a way that supports our employees and enables the university to recruit, promote, and retain professional staff.
